TALK TO PDF

Privacy Policy

Effective August 17, 2026

Privacy at a glance

Talk to PDF has no advertising and no cross-app tracking. You can use local PDF tools without an account. Sign in with Apple is required only before buying or restoring a Pro plan or cloud-credit pack, and Talk to PDF does not request your name or email. Your document library is stored inside the app on your device.

Document processing

PDF reading, text extraction, OCR, editing, and search run on your device. Apple Intelligence answers also run on-device when supported. Camera access is requested only when you choose a scanning feature.

Cloud AI and third-party sharing

Cloud AI is optional. Before the first cloud-assisted answer, Talk to PDF asks for explicit permission inside the app. If you tap Allow & Send to AWS, the app sends your question, document title and page count, and up to six relevant page-text excerpts (up to 18,000 characters) over HTTPS to a Talk to PDF gateway hosted by Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), then to Amazon Bedrock, AWS’s third-party AI service. A short PDF may contribute most of its extracted text. The PDF file itself is never uploaded.

Our AWS gateway also receives a pseudonymous app or purchase identifier and an Apple App Attest security proof to verify the app installation, check subscription status, spend a cloud credit when required, and enforce the 100-answer daily service limit. Those identifiers are not included in the AI prompt.

How cloud data is used and protected

AWS processes the question and selected excerpts only to generate and return the answer you requested. Talk to PDF does not use document content for advertising, tracking, profiling, or model training. We require AWS and every service provider with access to this data to use it only for the requested service and provide the same or equal protection described in this policy. Amazon Bedrock’s model provider does not receive access to prompts or responses. See Amazon Bedrock data protection.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Apple. Before a purchase or restore, Sign in with Apple supplies Talk to PDF with an app-specific user value. Talk to PDF converts that value into a non-guessable pseudonymous RevenueCat customer ID. RevenueCat receives that ID, purchase history, plan status, and cloud-credit balance to validate purchases, restore plans and consumable credits, and provide first-party purchase analytics. RevenueCat does not receive your PDF files or document text, and this information is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Analytics and diagnostics

PostHog receives product-interaction events, app performance information, and crash diagnostics so we can improve reliability and understand which features are useful. After purchase-account sign-in, those first-party events may use the same pseudonymous customer ID so product and purchase funnels can be measured. A 10% sample of sessions may be recorded with all images and text inputs masked; PDF, chat, tool, and Smart Tool workspaces are additionally hidden. Filenames, PDF text, questions, answers, form values, passwords, and file paths are never sent to PostHog. IP-based geolocation is disabled. This data is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Storage and deletion

Imported documents, generated files, PDF conversations, and Form Vault values remain on this device. The Talk to PDF gateway does not log or store cloud questions, selected excerpts, or answers and does not enable prompt caching. Amazon Bedrock handles request data under the AWS data-retention mode configured for the service; inputs and outputs are not used to train AWS or third-party models. See Amazon Bedrock data retention.

Delete an imported document from its Library swipe action or context menu to remove its local copy. From More → Account & legal, you can delete the purchase account and its unused cloud credits. Purchase-account deletion does not delete local PDFs or cancel an Apple subscription. Deleting the app removes its local data. Apple may retain transaction records as required to provide purchases and meet legal obligations.

Your choices

You decide which files to import, when to use the camera, whether to create a purchase account, and whether document text may be sent to AWS for Cloud AI. If you do not allow Cloud AI, the pending question stays on your device and Talk to PDF uses an on-device or local-text result. Cloud AI permission applies to future cloud-assisted answers until you revoke it from More → Privacy Policy → Reset cloud permission. You can sign out or delete the purchase account in Talk to PDF and manage or cancel subscriptions from your Apple Account settings.
